From Prince Diamond to Tetra House: A San Francisco Equity License Evolves
The license began in 2020 as Prince Diamond, a San Francisco storefront and delivery cannabis business. The city had been shaping its cannabis rules for decades, from Measure P in 1991, which made medical cannabis the city’s lowest law enforcement priority, to the 2018 launch of adult-use sales, when the Office of Cannabis took over local licensing. Prince Diamond entered this landscape with the goal of building a retail operation, serving customers through both a physical location and delivery.
Over time, the business grew beyond retail. It now holds both a California state license and a San Francisco permit as a cannabis distributor, a role that moves product between cultivators, manufacturers, and retailers rather than selling directly to consumers. Distribution is a different business from retail, with its own compliance requirements, testing and transport rules, and supply chain relationships. In 2025, the license was renamed Tetra House through a DBA (doing business as) filing, marking this new chapter.
The license’s history is also a story of San Francisco’s cannabis equity program. The city created the program to give people and communities hit hardest by past cannabis enforcement a real opportunity to enter an industry that had largely criminalized them. As an equity business, Prince Diamond gained access to the Office of Cannabis’s licensing process and its technical assistance, support that helps newcomers compete in a market where high costs, real estate barriers, and heavy regulation have shut out many.
The shift from Prince Diamond, a storefront and delivery business, to Tetra House, a state- and city-licensed distributor, shows an equity operator growing and adapting within the industry rather than simply getting a foot in the door.
